This couple had the coolest ideas for their Viking inspired wedding day. It had sprinkles of Star Wars throughout, beautiful autumnal colours and an awesome Rock vibe. Daniel still wanted traditional elements throughout their day whereas Jamie-Leigh wanted something a bit different. That is where I came in to help them achieve that.
The Venue
They got married at the beautiful Maidens Barn in Chelmsford. They always knew they wanted a barn and somewhere with accommodation for close family to stay and this venue ticked all the boxes. Always go and see a few venues, you will always get a feeling when you are at the right one for you both.
The Viking Inspired Smaller Details
The make up by Amber Kear and Hair by Claire really brought the wedding party into that Viking feel. Along with the dresses from Cicinia online to get all the autumnal colours she wanted, which she then had tailored to her bridesmaids. Viking styled jewellery and boots that they could all wear again. Jamie-Leigh’s Solovair boots were customised by Sammy Bee Customs to give them the special touch.
The Outfits
The wedding outfit was from Monsoon, Jamie-Leigh already knew which style she wanted and ordered a few different ones and found the one in the comfort of her own home. She then enjoyed dip dying her dress so she could tie in with her colour theme. I recommend if you would like to do this yourself, buying the same material to do test runs first. Lucy Can’t Dance in Chelmsford offer a dip dying service with their dresses.
Daniel and his wedding party found it quite difficult to find suits that complimented the colour theme and didn’t have lots of blue in. But they found what they were looking for at Anthony Formal Wear. If You have a very particular suit in mind, sometimes a bespoke tailor, is a good option.
The Transport
Wanting to arrive in style, Jamie-Leigh opted for a modern American Mustang. When arranging transport for you and your party to the wedding don’t forget to organise transport for everyone home again.
DIY Viking Inspired Decor
Jamie-Leigh is very creative and talented so wanted to make a lot of décor herself from the macramé with Viking Rune backdrop to the Star Wars, light sabre bouquet handles (3D printed) and stationery. As she found out though there is a lot of time involved in this and along with the wedding planning process it can become a little overwhelming, so try and outsource this as much as you can for your sanity!
With a backdrop you can really get the most use out of it for your décor throughout the whole day. From the ceremony, to the wedding breakfast, to then using it as a photo booth backdrop.
The Viking & Star Wars Inspired Flowers
The stunning Autumnal flowers were by Flowers with Love Essex. Lauren did all the bouquets and buttonholes, petals for the aisle and arrangements throughout the venue. Again the flowers used for the ceremony table can then be used for the top table, which is also very eco-friendly.
The Viking Inspired Entertainment
Whilst the photographs were being taken after the ceremony they wanted to be able to keep the guests entertained so what more could be more apt than axe throwing! There are so many fun and mobile activities that can be arranged for your wedding now, if you are looking for some outside the box entertainment for you and your guests. Giving you a few moments together as newlyweds and taking in the ceremony.
Viking Inspired Table Decor
Their wedding breakfast tables carried on with the Viking theme from skulls, ravens and table names. I suggested using burgundy tablecloths instead of white to really give the room that pop of their colour theme. Don’t be afraid to add strong colours with your tablecloths it really can change the whole room.
The Special Touches
Special touches throughout the venue can bring all the themes together. As the couple were so creative it was important to them. Don’t get caught up too much on the nice to haves, stick to your priorities and then if within your budget you can explore them.
The Viking Inspired Wedding Cake
Viking Inspired wedding cake by Cakez. Cake can also be a brilliant way to tie your theme together. It really can be anything. This was also cut with an axe!
We Will Rock You
Bringing in their love for rock music for the reception, I found rustic ROCK light up letters and they had a rock band perform for the evening. They also had Singing Waiters UK perform rock songs throughout the wedding breakfast as a surprise, which got everyone together singing and dancing. A brilliant idea to entertain and bring the fun element to the day.
The coolest night time shots with sparklers and smoke bombs, which got the guests involved. Was a great way to finish off the evening with the photographer. Just make sure these are allowed at the venue beforehand to avoid any disappointment on the day.
