Planning a wedding can feel overwhelming for any couple, but for neurodiverse couples it’s especially important to approach things at a pace that feels safe, comfortable, and joyful. Bry (she/her) and Jack (he/him) worked with me over two years to carefully create a wedding that reflected their love of festivals, their need for calm spaces and their desire to celebrate in a way that felt authentically them.

The result? A vibrant, festival-themed wedding at Sparrows Campsite in Halstead, complete with woodland vows, outdoor dining, glamping and camping for guests, and thoughtful sensory-safe touches woven throughout the day.

Taking It Slow: A Two-Year Journey

We planned the wedding step by step over two years, focusing on one big decision at a time, like the venue, tipi and band. If things ever felt overwhelming, we paused and revisited them later, ensuring the process never caused decision paralysis.

I simplified choices wherever possible, providing just two supplier options that matched their values, so they could spend energy on the fun, creative parts like DIY décor while I handled logistics behind the scenes.

The Perfect Festival Setting

Sparrows Campsite was the perfect choice, with woodland for the ceremony, fields for outdoor dining and glamping/camping for guest accommodation. Its layout mirrored a festival, with different areas named and themed throughout the day. This kept guests together while still offering quiet spaces for anyone needing a break.

The venue also allowed setup from Thursday, giving Bry and Jack plenty of time to settle in and make the space feel just right.

The tipi from Hullabaloo Events offered flexibility right up until the week of the wedding, a huge relief for Bry and Jack, who valued having time and space for decisions.

Inclusive Ceremony Design

From the start, Bry and Jack wanted their ceremony to feel comfortable and personal:

After the ceremony, we created a private moment for them to reflect together before re-joining their guests. Photographer Ross Willsher (he/him) who had done their engagement shoot, captured beautiful, natural shots while helping them feel relaxed in front of the camera.

A Calm & Supportive Getting-Ready Space

The morning of the wedding began in a quiet prep area, with incense burners and a calm, grounding vibe. Makeup artist Emma Garrod (she/her) and hairstylist Kitti at The Art House (she/her) worked gently and with full understanding of Bry’s needs, ensuring she felt calm and supported throughout.

Festival Food & Fun

The reception buzzed with festival-style activities: a tattoo station, craft table, DIY photo booth, and plenty of chill-out seating. All activities were optional, giving guests the freedom to join in or rest.

Music, Atmosphere & Flow

Music played throughout the day festival-style, with opportunities for quieter moments in different parts of the venue for the couple and guests to re-centre. Drinks flowed from the start, with wine and beers provided during the ceremony and early reception, then Beyond Bar Hire took over in the evening, easing pressure on the couple and keeping everything stress-free.

We had three stages of guests turning up, so to not feel too overwhelming for the couple.

When the skies opened just before outdoor dining, we quickly shifted everything into the dome area. Once the rain cleared, the sun shone for the rest of the evening.

The evening ended perfectly with live music, a fire pit, and marshmallows under the stars.

The Morning After

Guests who stayed overnight were treated to breakfast and drinks by The Teapod, while we handled the cleanup, clearing the arena, tidying the venue and gathering décor for Bry and Jack to collect. No massive cleanup mission, just a gentle close to a magical weekend.

Bry and Jack’s wedding was more than a celebration, it was a reflection of who they are. By taking things slowly, prioritising comfort and weaving in festival fun, they created an inclusive and unforgettable day that celebrated love, joy, and authenticity.

Their story is proof that when you build a wedding around what feels good, magic follows.
