Congratulations you’ve both got engaged and the time has come to start your wedding planning journey. But how do you find a wedding venue and suppliers as an LGBTQ+ couple? Where you know you’ll be in a safe space, valued and respected as a couple.
Here are my top tips:
Ask for Recommendations
Reach out to your friends and family in the LGBTQ+ community. Ask for recommendations for any wedding suppliers they have worked with or know of.
Wedding Directories
Online places like the Gay Wedding Directory. Which is specifically designed to help LGBTQ+ couples find wedding venue and suppliers who are LGBTQ+ friendly.
Wedding Fairs
Go to wedding fairs that are LGBTQ+ friendly. This can be an excellent opportunity to meet suppliers. The Quirky Wedding Fayre and His Days Wedding Fairs are a great place to start.
Facebook Groups
Join Facebook LGBTQ+ wedding groups like LGBTQ+ Wedding Ideas, Tips and Discussion. Run by Rainbow Wedding Network and Same Love Same Rights and get recommendations and support form the community.
Suppliers Websites
When researching a supplier on their website or social media, see the language that they use. The photos and real weddings they have done. Look for any rainbow flags or LGBTQ+ badges normally found at the bottom of a home page. Make sure that your suppliers have non-discrimination policies in place that protect the LGBTQ+ community.
Testimonials
Check the reviews and testimonials of the suppliers you are interested in. This may give you a better understanding of their approach, professionalism, and experience working with LGBTQ+ couples.
Schedule a Consultation
Meet with suppliers in person or virtually. This will give you an opportunity to ask questions and get a feel for their understanding of your unique needs as an LGBTQ+ couple.
Do make sure you get the right connection with them. Even if they are inclusive, it doesn’t mean they are the right supplier for you. You need to feel safe and respected as a couple and know that you are in the best hands for your vision for your wedding day.
Once you have found one supplier who you absolutely click with they will have recommendations for other suppliers, who have the same values and work ethic as them.
Hire a Wedding Planner
Get all the hard work done for you and hire an inclusive wedding planner, they can the go and find all the right and safe suppliers for you!
Check out the website to see if I am the right wedding planner for you and if not, I can certainly point you in the right direction of other LGBTQ+ friendly wedding planners.
